For the candles kindled at Chanukah dear Lord, I ask, for peace and love and lots of hope, and blessings multifold.
One to take away the pain of hatred, lonliness, indifference, stabbing at my heart.
Two to unite East and West, a nation, a family of man.
Three for teardrops to wash away the past, and bring...
Four new seasons, unfolding everlasting.
Five for shiny pennies to cast upon the sea, to take -
Six million wandering souls home to rest at last.
Seven to remember the Queen we call Shabbat, and,
And, alas, dear Lord, the eighth I leave for those who have no candles to wish upon of their own.
