Minnie Hite Moody (Jun 1900-Oct 1993) | American
in the New York Times

The hopes and dreams and trivial day to-day
Events recounted here are lost and gone,
The persons named are dead, or moved away.
Yet I have kept the letters on and on.
From year to year, for reasons now obscure,
And nebulous as youth, as one looks back;
And of this lone fact only, I am sure,
Though ink is faded that was blue or black,
And signatures cannot be reconciled
With living shape or fingers poised above
The waiting page, when I, a lightsome child,
Knew little of the tricks or life and love
But saw the future stretch, secure and sound –
Not canceled, packeted, and ribbon bound.
