Gabriel Fielding | March 1916 – Nov 1986 | British
from In the Time of Greenbloom | A≈C Black | 1956

In What pastures leaning up to mountains Browsed her flock of sheep Whilst she the blue girl deep past coming Drowsy ewes slipped further into sleep?

Why call them back who wandered from her dream To some white watershed of earth and sky Whence she herself streamed down in ringlets like a lamb with Heaven in her eyes!

No Angel knows No fire-hung Seraph knows or could
What I, the fallen son of fallen fathers
Now and then within the cirrus understood.

Give them ear! and let the dead,
Interred no deeper than antigone's lost tears
for Polynices, rise again and choose
To travel with you further than the ears hear
Or the heart can love.
IN THE TIME OF GREENBLOOM.
